Inspiration for this project stemmed from an earlier project that I worked on when I applied this design to a wrench “Squeeze Wrench”. Though the wrench was interesting, it never quite worked well. The squeeze mechanism could not apply a large enough force to be very practical.
Many design features were carried over to this little device. You can see below that it uses a very similar gear mechanism, though this time two bendable tabs are responsible for engaging the gear.
If you look at the cross section view of this below, you will see that the internal gear mechanism prints simultaneously with the squeeze housing. The gear is toleranced to allow it to freewheel when ratcheting. The top and bottom of the gear is designed with 45 degree angles to allow for printing this overhang feature.
